ARCAM

ARCAM was established in 1986 as a foundation and an information centre for the classical, modern as well as contemporary Amsterdam architecture. Its activities are directed at a wider public, with the aim of getting the wider public interested in the urban development of Amsterdam and its architecture. ARCAM also works with architects and institutions that bear influence on the city architecture. Young architects, who are going to eventually shape the city in the future are the ARCAM’s particular target.
Each year, the foundation organizes five different exhibitions, which concentrate on new developments in architecture at home and abroad. ARCAM is located in a small, curiously fluidly shaped, aluminum pavilion designed by the architect René van Zuuk and completed in 2003. The exhibition space and the information point are situated on the side of the Prins Hendrikkade. The lower level of the building, on the waterfront, is used for debates, meetings and school visits. The permanent architecture presentation " the Arcam Panorama " can also be viewed here. The offices of the foundation are located at the top floor of the building.
