Viewpoint for the San Remo

We are standing on the Wagner Cove, one has a wonderful view of the San Remo Apartment Building. At one point in the history of Manhattan, the 27-floor, Art-Deco style structure was the highest residential building in the city. It was also the city's first twin-towered apartment complex, or rather, luxury apartment complex, since it has always contained some of New York's most sumptuous residences. It was designed by Hungarian-American architect Emery Roth and constructed between 1929 and 1930 on Central Park West between 74th and 75th Streets.
The base of the building has fourteen floors, which in the beginning had seven apartments each. The average apartment was spread over 3,000 square meters. Between floors 14 and 17, the ones serving as the middle layer between the foundation and the towers, many apartments were given terraces. The two towers themselves, the building's most conspicuous elements, begin on the 18th floor and rise another ten levels. Both towers are crowned by cylindrical, columned caps, an integral part of the New York skyline. The building's total height is 400 feet, which is 122 meters.
Today San Remo apartments are sold anywhere from three to thirty million dollars, with the average price per square foot at 2,500 to 3,500 dollars. The most famous past and present residents include rocker Bono, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, golfer Tiger Woods, fashion designer Donna Karan, film director Steven Spielberg and movie stars Dustin Hoffman, Glenn Close, Demi Moore, Bruce Willis and the legendary Rita Hayworth.
