New York Marriott Marquis

Lovers of nocturnal vistas and sophisticated ambiance would not waste their time by getting a few drinks, having dinner or just unwinding at the Marriott Marquis' The View, New York's only revolving rooftop restaurant and lounge. Located forty-eight floors above Times Square, The View offers the most spectacular views of the city, views that are accompanied by a wide choice of exquisite American and international dishes and inexhaustible list of the world's best wines. It is a perfect place to cap your visit to New York, whether it is a honeymoon, a business trip or just an explorative journey of the most universal city on earth.
The Marriott Marquis at 1535 Broadway, where room prices range from $350 to $3,500 a night, was built in 1985, and not without controversy. In fact, five well-known, although financially unsuccessful, theaters were demolished in order to make room for the Marquis. Many actors, including Superman Christopher Reeve, tried saving the theaters, but their attempts were futile before the Supreme Court decision.
The hotel was built by the firm John Portman & Associates at a cost of $350 million. Although the construction did not meet the approval of New York's artistic community, the hotel did initiate a modernization and revitalization program for Times Square. Rundown neighboring buildings were also replaced with more attractive edifices and to compensate for the demolition of the five playhouses, a new, 1,500-seat, state-of-the-art theater was built on the third floor of the hotel. Today the Marquis Theater is one of the most popular in the city.
The hotel, owned by Marriott International, has 1,892 rooms and if you are not staying in one of them, make sure to at least take the 360-degree spin up at The View Restaurant and Lounge.
