Zone: The historic centre

Athens is one of the world's oldest cities - a metropolis of five million people. The centre of contemporary Athens is Syntagma Square, or Constitution Square. This is where the Greek parliament meets – in the building of the former Royal Palace. Greece today, according to its constitution, is a Parliamentary Presidential Republic. We will walk around the square, learn about the changing of the Presidential Guard ritual traditions, see the Heinrich Schliemannn mansion and the famous Athenian neoclassical trilogy – Academy, University, Library.
