Zone: The Old town

The famous Montjuic Hill in Barcelona is a great sightseeing location, where you can easily spend the whole day on an excursion. Our excursion route begins at Piazza di Spagna – the largest and most impressive square in the entire country. There are a number of different ways of getting to the top of the mountain – by car, by bus, or on foot. But the most romantic is to take the funicular railway from Barceloneta Beach. The cable car was built for the World Fair in Barcelona. During the Spanish Civil War its operation was suspended, and two of its towers were given the status of strategic locations. Then in the late 1950s work began on fixing up the old cable car, so that it could carry passengers once again. Recently a second, additional, funicular railway was put into operation, which runs between the top of Montjuïc Hill and the entrance to the Fortress, and back.
