The Amsterdam Canal District

Zone: The Old Districts

We'd like to invite you to come and delight in the traditional 'dancing' houses, canals, and old shop-windows in the legendary neighbourhood of Grachtengordel. The district sits between three of the main canals - Prinsengracht, or the 'Canal of Princes'; Kaisergracht, or 'Canal of Emperors'; and Herrengracht, or the 'Canal of Nobles'. Since 2010 Grachtengordel has not just been one of the most popular districts of the historic city centre - it's been officially listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site as a 'unique example of city architecture'.
